SHYAMAL DUTTA RAY | TRIBUTE

This book explores the deeply Kolkata inspired works by Shyamal Dutta Ray. In the artist's own words: "Calcutta is my primary source of inspiration. The play of light and shadows, poverty and plenty, which makes this city so unique, finds expression on paper and canvas. Each corner of the city has its own story with a unique narrative style. I try to share some of them in my work. In the 1960s I enjoyed working in oils but found myself getting drawn to the transparent medium of water colours which, over time, became my primary medium. Initially somewhat temperamental, I found myself making friends with this medium and the depth of emotion it offered."
